Generative AI Strategic Collaborative 2.0 advances the implementation of AI across healthcare organizations

CHICAGO, IL — July 31, 2024 — AVIA, the leader in healthcare digital transformation, has launched the second phase of its Generative AI Strategic Collaborative. Building on the success of the initial Collaborative, which included more than 34 leading health systems and developed frameworks around governance, data, ethics, and assessment, the Generative AI Strategic Collaborative 2.0 marks a pivotal transition towards real-world AI deployment, integration, and adoption within healthcare settings.

Since its inception in 2023, the AVIA Generative AI Strategic Collaborative has united leading health systems and industry organizations, including influential bodies such as the American Hospital Association and the Children’s Hospital Association. This collective effort has been instrumental in accelerating the safe and effective adoption of healthcare AI, positioning participants to navigate the transformative challenges of integrating AI technologies into clinical and operational workflows.

“The collaborative environment facilitated by AVIA has been very helpful,” said Michael Draugelis, AVP of Artificial Intelligence for Geisinger. “By engaging with other health systems, we gain valuable insights into their challenges and successes, which in turn informs and strengthens our own digital health efforts.”

The initial collaborative developed critical frameworks like the TRUSTED Framework, aimed at ensuring sage, responsible, and effective AI use within healthcare organizations. This framework has not only increased participants’ confidence in AI adoption but has also fostered a community dedicated to driving innovation and best practices in the field. As a result of the first phase of the collaborative, 95% of participants increased their confidence to take action toward adopting AI.

“We are thrilled to announce the continuation of our journey with the Generative AI Strategic Collaborative 2.0,” said Linda Finkel, CEO of AVIA. “Our first collaborative laid a strong foundation of use cases and frameworks to help guide the use of AI in the healthcare industry. Now, we are focused on translating these insights into tangible solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.”

“The value of getting together with other healthcare organizations that are deploying AI solutions to address similar challenges and opportunities is significant,” said Scott Waters, Chief Information and Technology Officer for Overlake Health. “It has been extremely helpful for us to have a venue to organize the conversations and get exposure to new and existing AI technologies. The Collaborative has helped us develop and implement an AI Governance structure that allows us to evaluate, recommend and monitor AI use at Overlake in a way that aligns with our organizational values and mission.”

AVIA is also excited to announce a new collaboration with Huron, a global professional services firm with extensive healthcare industry expertise and deep technical knowledge and implementation experience. Huron’s expertise with complex healthcare technology implementation will add practical and technical insights to the Collaborative’s program, giving members access to the premier experts in bringing cutting-edge healthcare technology like AI to life.

“Together, we are committed to advancing the future of healthcare by delivering practical and transformative insights that drive real-world impact,” said David Devine, managing director at Huron. “Working with AVIA allows us to bring our extensive experience in healthcare technology to their innovative Collaborative members, creating an opportunity to enhance the healthcare industry’s ability to harness the full potential of cutting-edge solutions like AI.”

More than 45 health systems are leveraging AVIA to move faster and more effectively with digital, through programs like the Generative AI Strategic Collaborative and AVIA’ Generative AI Accelerator.
