Stable-Isotope Labeling: A Valuable Tool for Researchers Across Various Fields
Stable-isotope labeling is a powerful tool widely used in most MS-based assays to investigate the topology and operation of metabolic networks. In such cases, accurate quantification is often required. As a supplier of nearly all kinds of chemicals and materials, Alfa Chemistry not only offer thousands of highly valued D, 13C, 15N, 18O, 34S labeled compounds, but also provide a series of stable isotope related technical services, including CSIA, SILAC, SIP, and SIA, for researchers both at home and abroad.
“Over the past decades, stable-isotope-labeled compounds have become almost the most important standard reagents used in various biomedical research scenarios. In view of the fact that there is also great demand for customized stable-isotope-labeled compounds, we decided to make related technical services also available. Combining expertise of our experienced chemists and biologists, we aim to support various research fields using CSIA, SILAC, SIP, SIA, and other stable isotope related techniques,” said the Marketing Chief of Alfa Chemistry.
Below are the advantaged areas where Alfa Chemistry’s expertise lies:
Compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA)
Developed in the 1990s, CSIA is a stable isotope analysis technique that can separate organic analytes from complex mixtures. This method is often used to identify the source of organic pollutants, clarify the migration and transformation process of organic pollutants in the environment, and ultimately achieve the goal of pollutants monitoring and prevention. Using instruments like GC–IRMS, GC–IRMS, and DI-GC-IRMS, Alfa Chemistry can provide rigorous CSIA experiments to solve environmental pollution problems, such as origin traceability of organic contaminants, transformation processes of organic contaminants, and evaluating degradation of organic contaminants.
Stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture (SILAC)
SILAC is a powerful approach for high-throughput quantitative proteomics. Owing to its great advantages in quantitative applications over other approaches, SILAC has a wide range of uses in expression proteomics, dynamic changes of protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), interaction proteomics, and protein turnover. Alfa Chemistry can help researchers with rigorous SILAC experimental design in two phases, including the adaptation phase and the experimental phase, to ensure reliable quantitative analysis results. More specifically, Alfa Chemistry's SILAC services cover: cell culture and cell labeling, labeling efficiency measurement, protein identification and quantification, data analysis, cell lysis, protein extraction, trypsin digestion, peptide fractionation, LC-MS/MS analysis, bioinformatics analysis, etc.
Stable isotope probing (SIP)
SIP is an isotope tracing technique that works by adding isotopically labeled compounds to environmental samples, and then identifying the functional microorganisms in environmental samples by molecular biological analysis of biomarkers (such as DNA, RNA or proteins), in which the biomarkers can provide taxonomic information and are labeled by stable isotopes. Alfa Chemistry is able to conduct the following three types of SIP services: phospholipid derived fatty acid- stable isotope probing (PLFA-SIP), deoxyribonucleic acid-stable isotope probing (DNA-SIP), and ribonucleic acid-stable isotope probing (RNA-SIP).
Stable isotope analysis (SIA)
Accurate stable isotope techniques such as SIA have allowed the analysis of a wide variety of matrices and have skyrocketed within different scientific fields such as geochemistry, archaeology, forensic science, biomedicine, environmental science, microbiology, soil science, and doping and fraud control. Leveraging a wealth of instruments and equipment, Alfa Chemistry's SIA service range can be broadened to cover geology, ecology, hydrology, food quality and safety, paleobiology as well as many other areas.
