PubHive Expands Local Literature Automation for Pharmacovigilance

January 31, 2022

PubHive Ltd., a cloud-based scientific software company, today announced the availability of the company’s Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Internet browser extensions for pharmacovigilance local literature automation. The PubHive browser extension extends local literature workflow automation from the PubHive Navigator cloud software platform that is available via the pubhive.com website, delivering documented efficiency gains of up to 92% for qualified persons for pharmacovigilance (QPPVs) that perform local literature surveillance work on behalf of their company or clients.

“The monitoring of local literature, especially literature that is not indexed in PubMed, is a highly manual and time-consuming process with minimal traceability for managers and clients who have regulatory responsibilities for ensuring that vigilance work is performed with the highest quality and according to standard operating procedures,” said Raj Vaghela, President and CEO at PubHive Ltd. “Building upon PubHive's industry innovation for automating local literature processes, our browser extension extends PubHive Navigator's platform capabilities so QPPVs can now automate local literature review processes from any webpage without having to navigate to another website or application.”

Published scientific journal content is an important source of information on suspected adverse reaction case reports. While more than 33 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature are indexed in PubMed, the free database search engine from the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a significant percentage of English and non-English language literature is not currently indexed in PubMed.  Marketing authorisation holders (MAHs) in the European Economic Area that are obligated to monitor literature as outlined in the Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GVP) guideline, Module VI 'Management and reporting of adverse reactions to medicinal products'.
