MAVERIX DEMONSTRATES LEADERSHIP IN BEST PRACTICES FOR NGS ANALYSIS AT BIO-IT WORLD
SAN MATEO, CA - Apr 20, 2015 - SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA - Maverix Biomics, Inc. is demonstrating its growing industry leadership in the analysis of high throughput sequencing genomic data with several notable presentations at the 2015 Bio-IT World Conference & Expo to be held April 21 - 23 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
At 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, Dan Kearns, Director of Software Development for Maverix, will present Turn-Key Variant Analysis for the Biologist. This presentation addresses best-in-class methods for variant analysis, including the visualization and interpretation of results. Four whole genome sequencing data sets representing the same individual will be examined to show the effects of different sample preparation techniques, sequencing platforms (including Illumina HiSeq-X platforms), and read coverage goals on the resulting read coverage and variant calls. Maverix acknowledges the assistance of the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT in providing key datasets used in this analysis.
In this presentation, we will discuss best practices that should guide researchers and bio-informaticians as they evaluate off-the-shelf variant analysis tools versus building their own, and some of the key decisions regarding sample preparation and depth of coverage, which can affect their variant calling results, said Kearns.
Maverix has been selected as a finalist for a Best Practices award at the Bio-IT World Conference, based on its submission of a case study describing the 99 Lives Cat Whole Genome Sequencing Initiative led by researchers at the University of Missouri. The 99 Lives Initiative is an example of a Community of Discovery which demonstrates best practices in collaboration and sharing of data amongst researchers working in common on a specific organism, disease state, or method. By working together, researchers can cost-effectively increase the power of their studies by providing access to more data sets than any individual researcher would be able to access. Time to discovery is also accelerated through sharing of knowledge and results.
Maverix is pleased to be recognized for building analytical infrastructure that helps our customers establish best practices in collaborative research and information sharing, as well as in the analysis of next generation sequencing data, said Dave Mandelkern, Maverix CEO. As many researchers new to high throughput sequencing take advantage of this exciting tool, it is crucial to provide them with the guidance and expertise that will bring them success.
Also at the Bio-IT World Conference, Maverix will be demonstrating its innovative analysis kits for DNA-seq variant analysis and RNA-seq gene expression analysis in booth number 355. These kits encapsulate best practices for configuring complete analysis workflows based on proven, peer-reviewed methods. Also being presented is the companys Maverix Complete offering, which simplifies the decision-making required to transition from bio samples through the multiple steps required for sequencing and analysis. By combining sample preparation and sequencing services along with secondary and tertiary data analysis from carefully selected providers, the Maverix Complete service offers customers a single process that is managed by Maverix, based on best practices.
About the Maverix Analytic Platform
The Maverix Analytic Platform is a cloud-based solution designed for use directly by life sciences researchers who may not have software or bioinformatics expertise. It leverages proven open-source algorithms and applications developed at leading academic and research centers. After loading sequence data from any organism (human, animal, plant, or microbe), researchers are able to immediately perform analyses with reliable, scientifically vetted configurations, as cited in peer-reviewed journal publications. Visualization is provided through a variety of integrated graphical tools, including a private, secure version of the UCSC Genome Browser, the worlds most widely used genome browser.
About Maverix Biomics
Based in San Mateo, CA and backed by leading venture capital firms and Silicon Valley investors, Maverix Biomics, Inc. provides researchers with a cloud-based platform to manage, analyze, and visualize genomic data, build Communities of Discovery, and place their data in context with the latest public data from the full spectrum of life, including human, plant, animal, or microbial organisms.
