Zymo Research Announces Launch of NGS Library Prep Kits for Genome-scale DNA Methylation and Hydroxymethylation Analysis

IRVINE, CA - Mar 17, 2014 - Zymo Research Corporation, "The Epigenetics Company",  today announced the launch of the Pico Methyl-Seq™ Library Prep and RRHP™ 5-hmC Library Prep kits for Illumina NGS-based, whole-genome analysis of 5-methlycytosine (5-mC) and genome-wide analysis of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) in DNA, respectively.  These NGS library kits are unique in that they contain everything necessary to perform reliable, consistent library construction and DNA clean-up.  The streamlined workflows facilitate east genome-scale analysis of DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation, keeping in line with Zymo's slogan: "The Beauty of Science is to Make Things Simple."

The Pico Methyl-Seq™ Library Prep is a modified Whole Genome Bisulfite Sequencing (WGBS) library prep workflow and can be completed in less than six (6) hours.  It is designed to facilitate the analysis of methylation status at individual sites across the entire genome.  This is a post-bisulfite library prep method that includes Zymo Research's acclaimed bisulfite conversion technology, and accommodates sample inputs down to picogram quantities of genomic DNA from FFPE tissues and ChIP as well as ssDNA.  For genome-scale hydroxymethylation analysis, RRHP™ (Reduced Representation Hydroxymethylation Profiling) 5-hmC Library Prep allows quantitative, strand-specific assessment of 5-hmC levels from as little as 100 ng of input DNA.  The RRHP workflow features a positive display output where only those DNA fragments containing 5-hmC are successfully amplified and analyzed.  The RRHP workflow is bisulfite-free for straightforward analysis of 5-hmC sites as well as simultaneous detection of SNPs.  

While it's known that DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation play important roles in many of life's processes, the differentiation between both epigenetic marks has been difficult considering the limitations of current technologies. When combined, both Pico Methyl-Seq™ Library Prep and RRHP™ 5-hmC Library Prep can be used to successfully elucidate genomic-scale methylation and hydroxymethylation profiles for a particular DNA sample from any species.
