Prof Deborah Ashby to give the 2023 Sally Hollis Memorial Lecture in Macclesfield
London, UK and Durham, NC – 13th September, 2023: A leading global expert on clinical trial data management will give Phastar’s 2023 Sally Hollis Memorial Lecture. Professor Deborah Ashby, Interim Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College, will share her vast knowledge of tackling data monitoring issues in complex clinical trials at the CRO’s Alderley Edge Business Park, Macclesfield, base, on 19 October.
Prof Ashby, a previous director of the School of Public Health and a founding co-director of the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit, will discuss how to overcome the challenges of reviewing accruing data during complex trials, such as platform and adaptive designs and those with multiple endpoints. It is a topic Prof Ashby, whose research interests include clinical trials, risk-benefit decision making for medicines, and the utility of Bayesian approaches, has investigated extensively.
She is the third, world-renowned, statistics expert to give the annual lecture since its inception in 2020, following the death of Professor Sally Hollis the previous year. A much-loved and highly respected member of the Phastar team, Prof Hollis started her career at the Hope Hospital in Salford and went on to be a founding member of Lancaster University’s Medical Statistics Unit.
Graham Clark, Chief Executive Officer at Phastar said: “Sally was an immensely talented leader, and her contributions were recognized as outstanding by everyone who had the privilege of working with her. That is why, each year, we invite a guest speaker who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of medical statistics to share their insights in her honor.
“Complex trial designs have become much more common in recent years. If we are to make the most of these new models, and keep patients safe and data quality high, identifying and overcoming the potential obstacles is of the utmost importance. We are very much looking forward to Prof Ashby’s talk and know it will be a fitting tribute to Sally, who firmly believed in the power of sharing best practice with industry colleagues.”
