VisualDx Partners with American Medical Women's Academy to Offer Diagnostic Support Technology to Women in Medicine
Global Leader in Web-Based Clinical Decision Support to Bring Assistive Tools to Organization’s Membership, Advance Equity in Healthcare
ROCHESTER, NY – February 15, 2023 – VisualDx, an award-winning, web-based clinical decision support system, has partnered with the American Medical Women’s Academy(AMWA), the oldest multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health, to offer assistive technology to all AMWA members. Through the collaboration, female physicians, medical students, and other members can access VisualDx for help with diagnostic and treatment decisions.
AMWA members will be granted a limited-time use of VisualDx, which includes advanced clinical search capabilities and an unmatched library of medical images of longstanding and emergent diseases, to optimize differential diagnosis and treatment, as well as patient communication. Driven by shared missions of fostering greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in medicine, VisualDx and AMWA will empower women in medicine with powerful clinical support tools to enhance patient care and outcomes.
“As a dermatologist that does lots of teaching for residents in all specialties--I often get asked the question: ‘If I were going to have one derm reference book in my medical library, what should it be?’ And although there are many great texts, in my opinion, the single best dermatology resource for any physician is a subscription to VisualDx!” said Elizabeth Kiracofe, MD, board-certified dermatologist and AMWA member. “It’s so helpful to doctors newly in practice to craft a thorough and efficient differential diagnosis of a patient’s rash, as well as for seasoned dermatologists to use the image banks to share photos with patients so they know they are not alone in their diagnosis. I also love the easy access to patient handouts! Most importantly, the treatment recommendations are constantly being reviewed and updated to match the latest literature and standard of care. As you can tell, I’m a big fan!”
AMWA is comprised of women physicians, residents, medical students, pre-medical students, health care professionals, and supporters all committed to advocating for women’s health and the advancement of women in medicine. The organization strives to address the gender gap in healthcare leadership through a variety of educational programs, mentorship, research, constituency building, and policy reform.
“As the healthcare industry continues to focus on improving diversity across all fronts, organizations like AMWA are doing critical work to ensure greater representation of women in this historically male-dominated field,” said Nada Elbuluk, MD, MSc, FAAD, board-certified dermatologist and Director of Clinical Impact at VisualDx. “We are proud to partner with this organization and work together towards a common goal of driving greater inclusion in medicine.”
This partnership follows a number of other engagements VisualDx kicked off in the past year to widen global access to its platform. The company received a grantfrom the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop diagnostic tools for surveillance, detection, and triage of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in India and Nigeria. VisualDx collaborated with the Vermont Department of Health on the Clinician Support Initiativeto help providers statewide diagnose and respond to public health threats, and also partnered with Emergence Health to arm frontline clinicians with assistive technology. Additionally, the company was selected by HHS’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to develop AI/ML that identifies infectious diseases for the Digital Medical Countermeasures program, and worked with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to create the Monkeypox Emergency Medicine Projectto supporting testing, diagnosis, and treatment of the emergent disease.
