MR Solutions receives world-wide recognition with R&D 100 Award
GUILDFORD, UNITED KINGDOM - Nov 14, 2016 - UK based MR Solutions, revolutionary pre-clinical scanner MRS 7000, is an award winner at the US-based R&D 100 Awards. The 54th annual awards, held in Washington in November 2016, recognise the 100 most innovative technologies and services of the past year.
The compact MRS 7000 series is the worlds first 7.0T (T is for tesla, the power of the magnet), helium-free, preclinical MRI system, which can be combined with PET (photon emission computed tomography) and SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) imaging modules. This allows researchers to choose between imaging techniques or use them in combination for their research applications.
Researchers, primarily from universities and research laboratories use MRI for an extensive range of applications in medical, food, industrial and commercial research.
The R&D 100 Awards is one of the highest honours in the research and development sector and are often referred to as the Oscars of Invention. They are organised by R&D magazine, whose editorial director, Bea Riemschneider, commented on the winners achievements: They should be very proud, indeed, of their notable R&D achievements and the teams that are responsible for these new products.
MR Solutions was chosen as a winner in the Analytical/Test category by a panel of over 50 judges representing many of the industrys leading research and development companies as well as national laboratories.
MR Solutions is the only company in the world to offer a range of scanners from 3T to 7T, which does not require the bulky liquid helium cooling jacket and all the safety infrastructure that is necessary, to cool the magnet to -270 degrees centigrade to make it superconductive. To achieve magnetic fields over 3T the magnet has to be superconductive. MR Solutions scanners, which are the size of a desk, can be wheeled into a laboratory compared to the helium cooled models which usually need their own room and substantial building modifications.
David Taylor, CEO, at MR Solutions said: We are really delighted to be awarded this prize against competition from companies across the globe. This coupled with the Queens Award for Enterprise 2016 for innovation, which we were awarded earlier this year, is recognition of the innovation and hard work that our staff have put in. We believe that these new scanners can make a real difference particularly in the development of new medical treatments due to their state of the art imaging at a much lower cost.
MR Solutions has over 30 years experience and in excess of 1000 installations across the globe. This includes sales of their MRI spectrometers.
