GeneHub Pulls Its Kickstarter Project to Sequence Whole Genomes for the Masses
September 25, 2014 | Just two days after launching a Kickstarter campaign to start the world's first brokerage service for personal whole genome sequencing, GeneHub has pulled the plug. Fortunately, the company does not seem to have gotten in regulatory trouble over its direct-to-consumer model; rather, their name violates the trademark of the unrelated Genohub, whose matchmaking service for researchers and sequencing centers Bio-IT World covered in a feature article last year.
The GeneHub founders, who it seems are also disappointed by the initial response to their campaign, have posted a statement on their Kickstarter page, saying, "We are regrouping and looking at what happened with this campaign and what our brand should be and how to better address the market gap we know is there."
