Terascala's ISB Helps Solves High Performance Data Movement Challenges

--Challenge and Solution Highlighted in White Paper Written by Leading Analyst Firm, ESG--

Boston, Mass.- February 12, 2014 - Terascala, the fast data company, today announced that its Intelligent Storage Bridge (ISB), a high performance, scalable data mover, is an ideal solution for companies looking to optimize the daily movement of high performance computing (HPC) data in a variety of industries. To more fully explain the high performance data movement challenges faced by organizations today, Terascala is pleased to release an Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) authored whitepaper focused on data movement best practices. ESG is a leading IT research and analysis firm based in Boston.

The paper entitled, Best Practices for High Performance Data Movement, highlights Terascala's ISB, a high performance data mover for high performance data analysis (HPDA) and HPC workflows. In the paper, ESG explains today's data movement challenges and how Terascala's ISB data mover can help solve them. The white paper is currently available for download on Terascala's web page.

Although HPC infrastructures are widely used by organizations across most market segments, data that needs to be processed often exists in infrastructures far too slow for today's HPC applications. The key to optimizing HPC is the efficient and daily movement of data between infrastructures by the application users themselves.

"Because high performance data movement is not routinely available in today's HPC infrastructure, vast amounts of unstructured data is often stranded," explained Bryan Cote, Director of Product Management at Terascala. "This data is typically lost - limiting valuable opportunities that could come from analysis of that data. And if the data is recovered, it's usually done so at additional costs. Either way, organizations are less productive and less competitive."

The ISB is the first solution of its kind that automatically transfers large datasets between high-performance fast scratch storage and a cost-effective enterprise storage system. A workflow driven, clustered data mover appliance, the ISB features full high availability and redundancy capabilities.

"We are pleased to see how well the ISB technology upholds the data movement best practices outlined in the ESG whitepaper," concluded Cote. "Automating the workflow and placing data movement in the control of HPC and HPDA users saves time and removes the need for data management expertise. With the ISB, the use of scratch storage becomes more efficient and can be used by many more applications in large, shared environments."
