September 17, 2013 | Complete Genomics has appointed Ethan Knowlden as senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of the company, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of BGI-Shenzhen.

Knowlden joins Complete from Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc. where he served as vice president of business development and licensing, and corporate counsel. Prior to his more than 13 years of corporate experience with Novartis, and its predecessor Chiron Corp., Knowlden spent seven years in private practice.

“Ethan combines outstanding business development and legal skills with a global healthcare mindset,” said Complete CEO Dr. Clifford Reid in a statement. “His knowledge and insight will prove to be valuable resources as we move closer to our goal of delivering high-throughput, clinical-grade, whole human genome sequencing for our customers.”

Knowlden, in the same statement, commented: “Whole human genome sequencing will dramatically change the way in which healthcare is practiced in many countries during the next decade and I am delighted to be part of the Complete team at this transformative time. I am confident that Complete’s highly-accurate, whole genome sequencing technology and the new applications that it has under development will prove invaluable in the clinic.”
