Combination Therapy Targets Breast Cancer that has Spread to Brain
August 6, 2013
August 6, 2013 | Using a mouse-model system, researchers at UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have combined cellular therapy and gene therapy to develop a possible treatment for breast cancer that has spread to the brain. Managing metastasis of breast cancer has been difficult because of complications with the blood-brain barrier and occurrence of metastases in several locations of the brain at once. These drawbacks make it challenging to use current cancer therapies effectively. While using cellular and gene therapy in combination, researchers noted a significant reduction in metastatic tumor size than when used separately. UCLA Newsroom
