Amyloid Plaque Location Predictive of Alzheimer's Disease

July 17, 2013 | The predictive value of amyloid plaque has been the subject of some debate in Alzheimer’s disease research. Past studies have shown a link between a patient's amount of plaque and risk for developing the disorder, but more recent studies showed that nearly a third of people with plaque on their brains never showed signs of cognitive decline. Now researchers have found that the location of amyloid plaque accumulations may play a role. More accumulations in the temporal lobe than other areas of the brain seems more closely tied with cognitive decline. Medical Xpress
