IT's Role Combating the Alien Invader
March 28, 2013
March 28, 2013 | At the Bio-IT World Expo last year, Kevin Davies hosted a panel discussion on cancer trends joined by John Quackenbush (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), Julian Adams (Infinity Pharmaceuticals), Jose Baselga (Massachusetts General Hospital), and Sir John Burn (QuantuMDx). The panel took on the challenges of combating cancer and “characterizing the alien invader”, as Baselga described it. Our opportunities in cancer therapies are driven by the availability of data, Quackenbush contented, and our challenges lie in integrating the data.

At the 2013 Bio-IT World Conference and Expo being held in Boston in two weeks, we will evaluate our progress over the past year and take on the data integration challenges Quackenbush mentions. A panel of CIOs from the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research; Biogen Idec; NIH; Janssen Pharmaceuticals; Mayo Clinic; and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard will take on the informatics challenges facing the life sciences today.
