Is the Better Benchtop DNA Sequencer Losing the Marketing War?

August 15, 2012 | Analyst Jon Groberg at Macquarie Equities Research has compared the early sales returns in the battle of the benchtop sequencers. And even though he hears that the Illumina MiSeq is the better instrument technically, the Ion Torrent PGM is still outselling it.  

Groberg estimates that Life has sold 1,300 PGMs to 700 units of Illumina’s MiSeq to date. Reasons for this trend might be that the PGM is $50,000 cheaper than the MiSeq, and Life Technologies has a large sales force. Forbes.com
