Wellcome Trust Throws Weight Behind Open Access Campaign

April 10, 2012 | The Wellcome Trust has joined the "academic spring"--an open access campaign lobbying for all research papers to be shared. The world's second largest non-governmental funder of medical research, The Wellcome Trust spends more than GBP600m per year funding scientific research, and says that in addition to plans to launch a new journal (eLife, announced in November), it will soon adopt more stringent methods to ensure that all of the research it funds is freely available to the public within six months of first publication.
