Thomson Reuters Partners with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has named the Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters a partner of scientific and patent information, analytical insights, and services for the Saudi Arabian national science agency. KACST is an independent Saudi Arabian scientific organization reporting to the Prime Minister that coordinates with government agencies, scientific institutions and research centers to foster research and exchange information and expertise. KACST selected several Thomson Reuters solutions that provide essential, foundational tools for the support of its National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, evaluating universities’ and institutes’ research performance indicators, as well as empowering cutting-edge research. These solutions include drug pipeline data, patents, scholarly citation information and custom reports utilizing advanced analytic capabilities. Thomson Reuters 

 

DNA Electronics Licenses Genomics Technology for Cosmetic Applications DNA Electronics has licensed its ground-breaking Genalysis technology platform for rapid, lab-free DNA detection to geneOnyx, a company that is delivering on-the-spot genetic analytics services for cosmetics and skincare applications. Following a successful evaluation of the DNA Electronics’ USB-based Genalysis lab-free platform, the two companies are announcing a commercial license and supply agreement that grants geneOnyx access to DNA Electronics’ real-time Genalysis platform for cosmetic applications. This agreement will deliver the world’s first commercial application of a true sample-to-answer, easy-to-use and low-cost DNA testing platform—bringing on-site, over-the-counter services to the retail industry for the first time. IO Informatics and Sage-N Link Semantic Applications IO Informatics and Sage-N Research have launched a partnership that includes the integration of Sage-N’s SORCERER Enterprise with the IO Informatics’ Sentient software suite. The combination of these technologies creates a Semantic application framework that has been used to quickly develop a highly specialized, large-scale application that leverages mass-spectrometry based proteomics with unmatched content enrichment, interoperability, and flexibility only possible with semantic data integration. Biomatters Launches 2012 Geneious Challenge Competition, Names VP of US Operations Biomatters has announced the 2012 Geneious Challenge: a competition to create a new feature, analysis, or visualization as a plugin to Geneious Pro using the public API. The winner of the 2012 Geneious Challenge will receive a $1000 cash prize and all entrants who submit a plugin before 25 June 2012 get a complimentary 12-month subscription license. BGI Opens Joint Bioinformatics Lab BGI has launched a joint bioinformatics & computing laboratory with National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin (NSCC-TJ) to promote the interdisciplinary cooperation in the fields of supercomputing and biological science as well as to boost the rapid development of omics-related industries. The new laboratory, called Tianhe-BGI Bioinformatics and Computing Joint Laboratory, is located in Binhai New Area of Tianjin, China and named after the Tianhe-1A supercomputer. HPC Wire
