Phylo Proves Gamers' Advantage

March 13, 2012 | Gamers are proving themselves adept and untangling genomic problems once again. Data from the online game Phylo has helped tackle a problem in comparative genomics and was published in PLoS One. Phylo was develped my McGill University in 2010 (see, "Phylogenetics for Facebook?") based on evidence that computers are good, but not quite good enough, at improving sequence alignment. Phylo is unique among science games because gamers don't need to know anything about genetics to contribute. Nature
