Team Tracks E. coli's Evolution with PacBio Sequencing
July 27, 2011
July 28, 2011 | An international team of researchers seeking to understand the recent particularly virulent E. coli infections have compared the bacteria's genome to that of 11 related strains of E. coli using Pacific Biosciences sequencing technology. The team published its findings late yesterday in the New England Journal of Medicine. Matthew Waldor, from Harvard Medical School who led the team, said that the PacBio technology was particularly well suited to producing complete bacterial genomes because it generates very long reads.
