Cray Supercomputer Planned for 20 Petaflops

March 27, 2011

March 28, 2011 | The Department of Energy is funding a $100 million supercomputer that should be eight times faster than the Tianhe-11A Chinese supercomputer that won Top500's top spot last year. Cray will construct the machine, dubbed Titan, that will be able to achieve 20 petaflops (compared to Tianhe's 2.5 petaflops). The supercomputer will be housed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory alongside the Jaguar. The first stage of delivery is scheduled for the end of 2011 with the second stage complete in 2012. Tech Eye
